In the 19th and 20th century nationalism emerged in almost every where of the globe largely as a reaction to the colonial exploitation which the people experienced.

In 1947, on the basis of religious nationalism the British India was partitioned and India and Pakistan came into existence as separate and sovereign states. The state of Pakistan consisted of two geographically separate territories i.e. East Pakistan and West Pakistan. But East Pakistan was treated as a colony and the colonial type relations between the two wings stimulated the feelings of nationalism among the people of the Eastern wing.

The book has dealt how the East Pakistan was economically exploited, politically dominated and socio-culturally suppressed by the West Pakistan and which were responsible for the emergence of Bangladesh.
